Firearm Safety Training – Summer 2026
The Monticello Corp of Firearm Safety Instructors will be hosting a
“Hunter Education and Firearm Safety hybrid class” in lieu of the in person Fall class that has been an area tradition since 1957.

Date: Saturday, August 29, 2026
Time: 8:30 AM to approximately 2:30 PM
There are three parts to the Hybrid Class.
Part 1 - Students age 11 and older will complete a MN DNR approved on-line HEFAS course.
Part 2 - Attend this in-person firearm safety hybrid class on August 29, 2026
The hybrid class includes a classroom review and firearms fundamentals session.
Part 3 – Students complete the field day as part of the hybrid class.
Preregistration is required.
Class size is limited to 40 students.
Students will be evaluated on their ability to safely handle a firearm, maintain muzzle control and to keep their finger off the trigger until they’ve identified their target, what lies beyond the target and are ready to shoot.Students demonstrating unsafe behaviors, attitudes or actions will be removed from class and asked to leave.
Parents are encouraged to remain on site to observe.Parents dropping off their students are expected to return to the Rod & Gun Club if they are called to pick up their student or no later than 2:30pm.
What to bring:
-Student’s printed certificate of completion for the on-line HEFAS training
-A beverage or water in a non-spillable container, a bag lunch and snack if desired.
-A pencil
What to wear:
-Blaze orange/pink on the top ½ of your body (above the waist) hat included.
DO NOT bring firearms or ammunition to this class, both will be provided for class use.
